impulseofwinter: ([negative] elsewhere)
((ooc:the following two drabbles take place after Matthew leaves for the States.))

Matthew had made her promise to wait before he would go back to New York alone. It was an intelligent promise to extract; given the choice Aeron would face the demons in her mind alone. It was her nurture.

She did need help, and though Jen couldn't navigate the corners of her mind she could restrain Aeron if it swallowed her up. She could call Matthew and soothe the children, who would realize too quickly something was wrong with Momma. He would come rushing back to the needy bitch he nearly married.

She's being too hard on herself, and it makes sense to wait.
impulseofwinter: ([negative] is someone there?)
The door is open and the cabin is empty.

Their possessions are still there; the cabin is too far from civilization for any bipedal creatures to come thieving. The fire is smothered, and long enough so that the remnants of wood have accumulated traces of ice.

The rug that had laid in front of it is in ribbons now and slung violently across the cabin. Open on the bed is Aeron's suitcase, in a heap beside it the contents. On examination, the winter gear she'd insisted on buying would be found missing.

Her tracks vanish at the water line.
